Kings of Beer

Munich + Prague

Two of Central Europe’s most exciting yet charming cities, Munich and Prague, boast rich history while beaming with energy. Wander the preserved medieval streets in Prague and delve into the horrors of 20th-century fascism in Germany, learning from the political mistakes and inspiring people's movements along the way. On the other hand, countless beer halls, beer gardens, and noisy restaurants provide classic dishes and the best beer culture Europe has to offer. Whether you are alone or part of a group, adventurous or not, the culture and lively atmospheres of these cities will leave you with lifelong memories.

Itinerary

9 days, 8 nights

Day 1: Arrive in Munich, Germany

Arrive in Munich, the lively capital of Bavaria, and prepare for a feast of beer, bread, and hearty fare. Stroll through the charming Altstadt (Old Town), then kick off your trip with your first beer and bite at the lovely Viktualienmarkt.

Day 2: Free day - beer day?

Take a scenic day trip from Munich to the fairytale-like Neuschwanstein Castle, perched high in the Bavarian Alps and surrounded by breathtaking mountain views. Not only did the exterior inspire Cinderella’s Castle, the view from its windows makes the trip alone.

Day 3: Entrance to Dachau concentration camp, or Museum of choice

For those who are willing, witness the reality of the Holocaust at the Dachau concentration camp, the longest running camp in Nazi Germany. Experiences like this are intense,  informative, and emotional.

Day 4: Optional day trip to Neuschwanstein Castle

Spend your free day as you wish; we recommend stopping at several beer gardens and houses. At the top of the list are the Augustiner-Keller, Hirschgarten, and, of course, Hofbräuhaus. Not only is the beer excellent, but there is also some seriously hearty food to accompany it.

Day 5: Historic Nuremberg

Leave Munich early for a full day in Nuremberg, a medieval gem brimming with history and charm. Explore Renaissance art, powerful WWII landmarks, and beautifully preserved architecture as you wander cobbled streets and soak in the city’s rich cultural layers.

Day 6: Continue to Prague - free day

A scenic 3-hour train ride through the heart of Central Europe brings you to Prague, the “City of a Thousand Spires.” Once the capital of the Holy Roman Empire, it dazzles with its rich architecture, vibrant culture, and endless opportunities to eat, drink, and explore.

Day 7: Morning walk and Prague Castle

Begin your morning with a peaceful walk across Prague, enjoying the nearly empty Charles Bridge and the quiet charm of its cobbled streets. On the east side of the Vltava River, stop for breakfast, explore the majestic Prague Castle, and take in one of the city’s many stunning viewpoints.

Day 8: Free day - beer day!

Enjoy your morning and early afternoon with free time to explore Prague. Recommendations include: visiting the John Lennon Wall, the historic Jewish Quarter, or exploring the winding streets of Old Town further. Later in the day, a Czech beer tour both informs and impairs those who join. An optional river cruise is available as an alternative.
