An Unexpected Meal in Copenhagen

Sometimes, most times, the best travel memories come when you least expect them.

While visiting Copenhagen in February 2025, I stumbled upon a tiny döner kebab shop that absolutely blew my mind. It was nothing fancy, just big enough for two tables, yet somehow packed with over 15 people. However, the smell of grilled meat, fresh vegetables, and warm bread pulled me in like a magnet.

When my kebab showed up, I was hooked. The bread had this perfect crunch, the meat was insanely juicy, and everything was topped with fresh greens, pickled veggies, and a sauce I’m still dreaming about. It was ridiculously good, and honestly, way more satisfying than most meals back home.

The döner kebab, originally from Turkey, gained global fame in Berlin thanks to Turkish immigrants in the 1970s. It’s been the ultimate late-night snack there ever since, and now it’s popping up everywhere, including Copenhagen.

So next time you're in a city with a big Turkish or Arab community, skip the usual and grab a döner. It’s globalization at its most delicious.
