The Perfect Day in Tokyo
Tokyo is full of indulgences and endless entertainment. As the most populous metropolitan area in the world, it has everything to offer—so how do you decide where to spend your time and money? I’ve created “The Perfect Day in Tokyo” to give travelers a taste of everything this incredible city offers in just 24 hours.
This itinerary is fast-paced with plenty to see and eat. At the same time, it leaves room to enjoy the energy of Japanese professional baseball and the unique “sit and eat” izakaya culture.
Start your day on the run with breakfast from Japan’s favorite convenience store: 7-Eleven. Try their famous breakfast options — breakfast corn dogs, fried chicken, pastries, or the beloved cream and fruit sandos. 7-Eleven in Japan is nothing like its counterpart in the U.S., and don’t forget to grab a coffee—you’ll need it!
After lunch, make your way to the Tokyo Dome to catch a Tokyo Giants game, part of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) league. Baseball in Japan is a unique experience. Games are typically low-scoring, but the real excitement comes from the energy of the crowd and between-inning entertainment. Cheer along with dedicated fan bands, enjoy lively audience interaction, and don’t miss the famous uriko—beer vendors with mini-kegs strapped to their backs, ready to top off your drink.
Cap off the day at Omoide Yokocho (Memory Lane), the ultimate alleyway for drinks, grilled meat, and great conversation. This narrow street is lined with tiny izakayas offering affordable drinks and à la carte snacks. Sit elbow-to-elbow with locals and travelers alike, sharing laughs and bites as you wind down the night in classic Tokyo style.
There are countless ways to spend a day in Tokyo—thankfully, The Itinerary’s Golden Route, includes 4+ days in the city. This “perfect day” is action-packed but only scratches the surface of what Tokyo has to offer.
